H.E. Lucas Palacios

Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism (Chile)

Lucas Palacios Covarrubias is a commercial engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with extensive experience in the areas of strategic planning and management, financial-budget analysis and international trade. He has a master’s degree in Latin American Studies with a major in Economics from the University of Salamanca.

He served as an advisor to the Budget Office (Dipres) of the Ministry of Finance. Previously, he worked at Viña Tres Palacios, Pesquera Deep Sea Food, Guy Carpenter & Company and Consorcio Nacional de Seguros.

He has extensive experience in the public sector, as councilor of the Puente Alto commune, executive secretary of the Association of Municipalities of the Precordillera (Cunco, Vilcún, Melipeuco and Padre Las Casas), and as a member of the Program "Young People at the Service of Chile ” from the Jaime Guzmán Foundation.

Former Undersecretary of Public Works (2012-2014; 2018-2019) he was appointed Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism on October 28, 2019, by President Sebastián Piñera.
